Fishing Report Update
April 8, 2010
The fishing is slow to poor.
Water levels have risen to summer like conditions quickly. This is possibly
pushing the fish deep into the tulies. The wind, chilly nights, and staticwater
temps. at 64 degrees might be to blame also. The Gila River is even high
– bank to bank – which I havenÕt seen in ten plus years. I hear the
Yuma County Sheriff is patrolling the Gila with their airboat.
Fishing
Report for April 2010
The
ÒSpawnÓ has officially started as evidenced by Bass on nests in the shallows,
occasional schools of very small fry hiding among shoreline debris, and
relentlessly sticky Carp eggs glued to boat bottoms and elsewhere.
Largemouth
are biting. Larry Sheldon of San Diego put four in his well in three A.M. hours
March 31. The fish totaled 10 pounds + or -. Word has it the Bass fishing will
get even better soon.
Stripers
are now being caught in the side lakes as they try to cash in on the Òspawn
buffetÓ.
Bluegill
are starting to bite in the warmer coves even though the water temperature is
still below 65 degrees. This water temperature staying low could mean a longer
spawning period this season. Hopefully the fish will also be biting for a long
time.
An
important note: Quagga (or Zebra) Mussels have been found in the lower Colorado
River. The recommendation is to wash your boat thoroughly before triailering it
through a Border Patrol check point. More info is at dfg.ca.org.
